In the period 8-17 October 2021, it took place the exhibition ‘Upfold’ of the designer Alexe Popescu (PhD candidate, 2nd year and lecturer at UNArte, FADD | Design), within the 2021 Diploma Festival. The exhibited projects are the result of his personal explorations in the area of the applicability of Origami folding techniques in product design, focusing on the area of upcycling, namely the “re-use” of packaging, after the end of their first life cycle. The more than 40 objects on display cover different areas of product design: personal accessories (hat, wallet, card holder, jewellery, mask), smartphone holders, footstool, toys (ball, kendama, toy car), kitchen accessories, office objects, flexible structures. The raw materials used are Tetrapak packaging, subway cards, PET bottles, aluminium cans, A4/A3 paper, cork. The exhibition is part of the development of his doctoral project on the topic of Study of Origami folding structures and contributions on their applicability in product design. The exhibition was carried out with the support of ASAP Romania and The Institute.
